My husband was in Baghdad for 1-1/2 years (Army). I would send him almost anything. If he couldn't use it someone else always could. They also would trade with each other - candy, snacks, beef jerky, gum, magazines, family pictures, coffee, chapstick, anything that doesn't easily spoil. You could also ask him if he needs anything like toothpaste, aspirin, etc. - depending on where he is he may have a hard time getting basic supplies. Also, if you do a web search for "care packages" for soldiers they usually have some good ideas too. You just can't send anything that is pork based or has alcohol in it.
Very cute paintings! Very cool article about your brother as well. I would send anything that would make them feel more at home. Toiletries, snacks, etc. Have a great day!
